Jason, Mareike and Rocket. After 30,000+ km across Australia in different setups, and now preparing for full-time family life with our daughter in Europe, this is our refined, real-world packing list.
We focus on minimalism with redundancy — only keeping what we actually use. We try to live sustainably by reducing the use of plastic, synthetics and single-use items. This list continues to evolve as our daughter grows.
01 — Kitchen & CookingPer family of up to 4. Less is more — we keep only what we actually cook with.

Too many pots, plates and bowls. A big rice cooker. Excessive gadgets. We learned that one well-loved tool replaces three half-used ones — and the cast iron skillet does more than any non-stick we’ve ever owned.

Per person. Functional, layered, sustainable materials — without bulk.

Prioritise multi-use and compact. Less is better when space is limited.

Cooling mat for the cab — for hot climates. Soaked, sat on, dry by lunchtime.

Blackout window covers — essential in cities and for babies; doubles as privacy

Paper road atlas — when data fails, paper works.

Weight is everything. Prioritise multi-purpose items. Test everything on short trips first.
With a baby, focus on quick setup and teardown. Every minute counts at camp.
Weight and space management is always important when camping. We regularly do “purge rounds” and remove items we haven’t used in months. This list is what works for us — use it as a starting point and adapt it to your own truck, climate, and family. Send us your thoughts, recommendations and ideas — we’re always keen to learn.
Safe travels,
Jason, Mareike, our daughter and Rocket
This is what works for our truck, our daughter, our dog, and the routes we’ve actually been on. It isn’t a recommendation, an endorsement, or a strict packing list for your family. Vehicle laws, border rules, baby gear standards, and dog import requirements change country to country and year to year. Use this as a starting point, not a finish line — and weigh the truck before you leave.

Life beyond the ordinary.
